Why Quality Rangehood Ducting Matters? Introducing Schweigen’s Steel Flex Ducting.

The key to a safe and clean kitchen when cooking is through the use of a quality Kitchen Rangehood. Rangehoods eliminate fumes and exhaust from inside your kitchen when you are cooking. But what happens once it’s left your Kitchen? It needs to be exhausted through a system of ducts that connect your rangehood to the outside of your home through our vent or cowl.

While ducted rangehoods are nothing new, very few are as well-engineered as what you’ll find with Schweigen’s new duct technology. If you’re an avid cook or want to keep your HVAC systems in perfect shape, this guide will tell you everything you need to know about why quality ducting matters and how to apply it.

What is a Ducted Rangehood?

Ducted range hoods help move harmful air particles out of your home and outdoors. Unlike ductless range hoods, ducted variants don’t just recirculate air through a filter—they completely exhaust the fumes from your home.

Components of a Range Hood

Rangehoods comprise several elements that make them effective at removing air particles from your home. These include the following.

Exhaust Fan / Blower.

The exhaust fan is what powers your range hood and consists of protective housing, fan blades, and one or more motors. There are three types of blowers:

  • Local: inside the hood
  • Inline: installed inside ductwork
  • External: installed on the roof

Controls

Whether your range hood is ducted or ductless, it will come with a comprehensive control panel. These controls are typically stainless steel push buttons, though they sometimes come in the form of an LED touch panel.

A few standard controls include:

  • Heat controls
  • Blower speed (four, six, or adjustable)
  • LED controls
  • Time delay
  • Clock
  • Timer
  • Power

Filter

What type of filter your rangehood has will depend on whether it’s ducted or ductless. For instance, you’ll typically find ducted models fitted with steel baffle and mesh filters. In ductless models, baffle and mesh filters also come with charcoal filters.

Naturally, the larger the rangehood, the more filters you’ll have to equip it with.

Lights

Most rangehoods come equipped with LED or Halogen lights and occasionally heat lamps. Compared to Halogen lights, LEDs last longer—though they might burn out sometimes.

Circuit Board

Rangehood circuit boards are responsible for allowing controls and lights to function. Circuit boards hardly malfunction and are easy to maintain.

Schweigen Ducting Technology

At face value, Schweigen rangehood ducts have everything you could possibly need —it’s ultra-strong, highly flexible, quiet, efficient, and tear-resistant. However, there is more to Schweigen ducts than meets the eye.

The Difference

Introducing the Schweigen Steel Flex Safety Ducting. his uniquely engineered duct apart is its ability to provide total safety even in the most demanding residential and industrial HVAC applications. Its antimicrobial, thermally-insulated, and acoustically-dampened Steelflex technology is easily installed and provides unbeatable strength.

The Benefits

Are you looking for superior ducting for your rangehoods? Here are a few reasons you should invest in Schweigen ducts.

  • Quiet: Schweigen variants are acoustically dampened compared to other ducts, creating minimal noise and resonance.
  • Fireproof: Patented Firemesh technology protects against ignitability and flame propagation.
  • Anti-pest: Keep infestations from occurring in your ducts through silicone braided mesh and metal tape reinforcement.
  • Puncture-proof: Boasts anti-penetrative strength.
  • Anti-mould: Rest assured your duct will maintain its integrity and performance even in mould-prone and high-humidity environments.
  • Temperature-resistant: Performs optimally between the temperatures -10C and 80C.
  • Crush-proof: Can effectively withstand tears, rips, and collapse.

How Much is Schweigen Ducting?

Depending on the ducted rangehood model you choose, prices can vary from $2000 to over $5,000. This will include the rangehood and installation.

How much you pay for a ducted rangehood will also depend on:

  • Size: While 60 cm and 90 cm rangehoods are more common and affordable, expect to pay more for larger ones ranging from 110 cm, 120 cm, and 150 cm.
  • Location: Your cooktop might also influence how much your ducted rangehood costs. For instance, canopy rangehoods installed on an island bench might cost less than an under mount model.
  • Appearance: Our models are available in various finishes, from traditional white looks to more industrial stainless steel washes, whose costs may vary.
  • Extraction rate: Naturally, more powerful ducted rangehoods that are more effective in extracting dirty air will cost more.

At the end of the day, the requirements of every kitchen are different…and therefore what you need and the cost vary’s. If you would like some advice on what will work for you and your budget please get in touch!
